Unexpected Reflections

Miguel de la Torre (mta+v) invites us to discover Unexpected Reflections, an ephemeral artistic intervention that invites us to honor our loved ones and our traditions through a symbolic portal to the world of the departed.

In honor of Day of the Dead, “Unexpected Reflections” is an artistic installation that reinterprets one of Mexico’s most cherished traditions from a contemporary perspective, exploring the deep connection between life and death. The piece, conceived as a portal between both worlds, invites visitors to cross a symbolic threshold marked by a wall of mirrors, where their own reflections intertwine with the memory of those who are no longer with us.

The installation comes to life through public participation. Visitors are invited to write the names of loved ones on wooden blocks and place them in the world of the dead, becoming active creators of this collective altar. With each block, the space fills with personal meaning, stories, and a bond that transcends time.

This intervention  is not just a tribute to memory; it is an intimate and transformative experience, a place where the mystical and the modern meet. In this space of contemplation and reverence, tradition is honored and the passage between existence and remembrance is reflected upon.
