“Helechos” House-Studio

Discover the “Helechos” House-Studio project with Raúl Diego Cervantes, a proposal where the garden becomes the heart of the space, seamlessly blending living and working through an intimate connection with nature.

Conceived as a livable garden, the Helechos house-studio merges architecture with nature, where vegetation is not only part of the surroundings but also the final finish of every space. The south-facing orientation defines a closed façade that protects privacy and controls sunlight exposure, while the interior opens up to a central garden, the heart of life and work within the project.

Each space maintains a direct relationship with nature, filtering light through strategically placed gardens that cool the environment and soften the transition between indoors and outdoors. At the entrance to the studio, a purple Amapa frames the access, while a Jacaranda tree defines the rear visual anchor, establishing a constant dialogue between architecture and landscape.

The material palette highlights the honesty of construction processes. Steel, concrete, red brick, gray concrete block, pine wood, and glass form a structure that balances efficiency and aesthetics. Wood, essential to the vertical scale, encloses and defines the spaces, adding warmth to the design. The galvanized sheet metal roof, optimized with a one-inch polyurethane layer, helps regulate indoor temperature, ensuring comfort even in warm climates.

The project is an exploration of architecture as a living organism, where light, air, and vegetation shape an atmosphere that enriches both inhabitation and the creative process, allowing the architecture to evolve over time along with its surroundings.
