Casa Canela is in the heart of the historic center of the city of Merida, just a few steps from Palacio Cantón on Paseo de Montejo.

As this a property protected by the National Institute of Fine Arts (NIFA), the first renovation resource we thought was to dress the facade with plants, so we began to document ourselves on the subject.

Each project, in our exercise as architects, represents a different challenge and requires a specific solution, it is an opportunity to propose solutions according to specific problems or unique circumstances.

“Have you ever wondered what a garden sounds like when there’s no one there to listen?”

With the intention of creating a space which represents a escape from Mexico City, a reinterpretation of pre-hispanic Mexico was created, this scenario includes some elements such as sacbé (roads), palm covers, items made of clay (such as flowerpots), chairs made of natural materials, and the most important element: the maize field.
