During its growth stage, the plant exhibits a phenomenon known as heliotropism, through which its stems and young buds turn to follow the sun’s path throughout the day. This movement not only optimizes the capture of solar energy, but has also, for centuries, nurtured the idea that the sunflower symbolizes optimism, perseverance, and steadfast devotion to the light.

The sunflower has a remarkably rich cultural history. Originally, it was cultivated by the Indigenous peoples of North America more than 4,000 years ago, who used it as food, oil, pigment, and even as a ceremonial element. Over time, the plant traveled to Europe and later to the rest of the world, becoming one of the most recognizable and beloved flowers.

It also found a privileged place in art. One of the best-known examples is the Sunflowers series by the Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh, who transformed this flower into a universal symbol of energy, life, and emotion.

For those of us who work with flowers, the sunflower is also an example of versatility: it can be the absolute protagonist in an arrangement or provide a luminous accent in more complex compositions. Its strong structure, generous diameter, and intense color make it a flower capable of conveying immediate joy. Whether it is used in contemporary designs, country-style arrangements, or more elegant compositions, the sunflower always brings character.
