Lomas Country Club
Vista Verde Paisajismo presents Lomas Country Club, a biodiverse residential garden in Huixquilucan, State of Mexico, that evokes the beauty of the forest. A landscape restoration project where design and nature merge through organic forms, native species, and trees, creating a garden that is experienced and continually evolves.
The project is located in the Lomas Country Club residential development in Huixquilucan, State of Mexico. It is a project that was born with the aim of transforming a traditional residential garden into a biodiversity refuge. The landscape design decision was born from a deep admiration for the behavior of the soil, water, native flora, and fauna of the area, before it was altered by human intervention. The residential development is located in a geographical area of ravines and gullies, characterized by a temperate forest with natural water runoff.

The name of the municipality itself, Huixquilucan, comes from the Nahuatl Huitzquillocan, which means “place full of edible thistles,” perfectly describing the nature that inhabited the region. The urban transformation of the residential development began in 1990, when, despite preserving certain ravines and gullies, hectares of forest were lost. It is there where the roots of our project begin.

From the beauty of the temperate forest came our inspiration to transform a bare garden, with pronounced architectural lines and high water requirements, into a biodiverse garden. The challenge was to restore the landscape, bringing back the natural essence of the site and integrating it with the architecture: a space where the art of man and the art of nature would merge without boundaries and in harmonious coexistence.

At the beginning of the project, the site consisted of an area made up of 95% lawn, with a perimeter barrier of shrubs and trees that lacked fertile soil for their growth. The water requirements were highly demanding, the vegetation and trees had been showing minimal growth for more than 10 years. We conducted a study of the area and the soil. Together, through the design, we carried out a soil restoration treatment, adding organic substrate and a microbial consortium to regenerate soil degradation and promote the development of the root vegetation.

The design integrates landscape restoration, a reduction in water requirements, refuge for biodiversity, technology in the garden, and native species that will be able to thrive spectacularly in the area. Thus, it is a garden that evolves over time, where each sprout is a new beginning, and every bird and insect that visits it is in a safe environment, a space free of chemicals, and a restored soil for them.
The design integrates landscape restoration, reduced water consumption, technology, and native species, creating a refuge for biodiversity within a safe, chemical-free, restored garden.

The intervention focused on generating movement through organic forms, the integration of native species and trees to transform the space into an area that welcomes you through nature and can be enjoyed throughout all the seasons of the year, without having to wait for those warm seasons that fill the shrubs with foliage. This perennial garden is a garden that invites you to contemplate and take different paths through it, where each space presents contrasts in tones and a diversity of species.

This project regenerated the space, providing a sense of an imperfect forest. It is a contemplative garden with different areas and pathways that allow the mind to be freed, admire the beauty of nature, and foster introspection within it. Movement allows us to experience nature in an unparalleled way.

This garden is a garden that lives, evolves, and reminds us of the beauty of a forest; an irregular forest that does not follow a linear pattern, but rather an irregular form that welcomes all living beings.
