El Perdido
Estudio ALA and WISH & CO present El Perdido, a hotel inspired by the traditional architecture of Baja California, it uses materials and building techniques that harmonize with the arid surroundings.
Nestled in the heart of the Baja California Sur desert, where coastal chaparral meets the peaks of the Sierra Nevada, El Perdido emerges as a sanctuary that redefines the relationship between architecture and nature. This boutique hotel embraces a design that flows seamlessly with the landscape, inviting guests to reconnect with the unhurried rhythm of life.

Hidden in plain sight, it reveals a world of sand that is both understated and harmonious. Inspired by the indigenous structures of the region, each space blends into the terrain through natural materials such as local wood, clay, and stone. The architectural approach eschews ornamentation to let the desert and sky take center stage. Stone pathways wind through native vegetation, while natural light interacts with the shadows cast by palm-thatched roofs and earthy textured walls, creating an atmosphere of quiet contemplation.

The private villas (contemporary reinterpretations of jacales) evoke the warmth of a home while maintaining exclusivity. Spacious terraces with hammocks, garden patios planted with native flora, and outdoor bathrooms enhance the sensory experience of the landscape. Inside, the furnishings balance rustic charm with refined touches, maintaining a warm color palette that invites rest and reflection.

The shared spaces continue this philosophy of integration: a garden designed around the sculpture of the Tree of Life weaves vegetation into the walking paths; the chapel, built with earthen floors and stone walls, becomes an intimate spiritual haven; and the Observatory, inspired by sacred geometry, offers a space to contemplate the universe and the desert horizon.
