Her boat, just like this dream environment, goes full of flowers, she wants to sell them to repay an unfair debt. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Meanwhile, Lorenzo, his only true love, watches her from the ground, worried. The work shows the Aztec civilization thriving in the market and in the<br \/>background Tenochtitlan, the Aztec capital, founded<br \/>on the Texcoco Lake.<\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Through this important film of 1944, Emilio \u201cEl Indio\u201d Fernandez, the director, and the visionary photographer Gabriel Figueroa, transmitted us a series of images, so symbolic and spectacular that would remain marked in our collective memories about what our nation really means. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In that landscape, we learn about the traditions, the mores, and the scenes of the Mexico\u2019s rural life in the early 20<sup>th<\/sup> century. All this was largely achieved by choosing the right place: Xochimilco.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3383\" style=\"width: 749px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3383\" class=\" wp-image-3383\" src=\"https:\/\/www.landuum.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/spring_15_aquaculture_aquaponics_painting1-768x616-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"739\" height=\"594\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.landuum.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/spring_15_aquaculture_aquaponics_painting1-768x616-1.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.landuum.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/spring_15_aquaculture_aquaponics_painting1-768x616-1-300x241.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.landuum.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/spring_15_aquaculture_aquaponics_painting1-768x616-1-600x481.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 739px) 100vw, 739px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-3383\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The chinampas were created to generate areas of fertile soil.<\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">This important site, unique in the world, was formed by a clever system of agriculture, which survives until today since pre-Hispanic times, the chinampas. <\/span><span class=\"s1\">This system makes possible to take full advantage of the lacustrine environment, and is more ancient than Tenochtitlan itself. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Generation after generation, the citizens of M\u00e9xico have traveled happily through its water canals. This tour has become a Mexican icon.<br \/>Photography:<br \/>Lis Roldan.<\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">As time pased, and beginning with the Spanish occupation, the lake was perceived as an obstacle to the development of the city, dredging down the water areas. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In the present, due to the rapid pace of urbanization, coupled with pollution, only some chinampas areas survive in the southwest of Mexico like Tlahuac, Milpa Alta o Xochimilco itself, declared world heritage by the UNESCO in 1986, along with Mexico City <sup>5<\/sup>. <\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In spite of that, we can say that the big City of M\u00e9xico, The \u201cCity of Hope\u201d, stands on this millenary chinampas. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">There is no easy way to explain the value of that system.
