data-end=\"537\">How did your love for landscapes and environmental rehabilitation begin?<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p data-start=\"539\" data-end=\"1225\">Our love for landscapes and environmental rehabilitation stems from a fascination with the relationship between nature and built projects. <strong data-start=\"548\" data-end=\"625\">For us, every place has its own history, conditions, and unique character<\/strong>, and working with them allows us to learn, respect their identity, and enhance their value. <strong data-start=\"718\" data-end=\"802\">At SvNMX, we design landscapes that connect people with the natural environment.<\/strong> From community planning to small-scale interventions, we aim to generate ecological, social, and economic impact, <strong data-start=\"917\" strategies were proposed for the Sisal Regenerative Tourism Master Plan?<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p data-start=\"1149\" data-end=\"1533\">For the Sisal Regenerative Tourism Master Plan, <strong data-start=\"1197\" data-end=\"1389\">landscape strategies were proposed based on the idea that regeneration principles involve creating spaces that not only provide experiences but are also ecologically and socially circular.<\/strong> Instead of imposing a design, the plan <strong data-start=\"1429\" data-end=\"1531\">seeks to rehabilitate natural systems so that they function as a living, resilient infrastructure.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1535\" data-end=\"1594\">\n<div id=\"attachment_27364\" style=\"width: 1930px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" data-end=\"1594\"><strong data-start=\"1535\" data-end=\"1592\">The strategies focused on two key ecological actions:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1598\" data-end=\"1828\">\n<p data-start=\"1924\" data-end=\"2159\"><strong data-start=\"1924\" data-end=\"1978\">Regenerating the mangrove ecosystem of the lagoon.<\/strong> Reforestation of mangroves damaged by aquaculture and recreational use was proposed, <strong data-start=\"2064\" data-end=\"2157\">in order to create a biological bridge between development areas and inland water bodies.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1596\" data-end=\"1828\">\n<li data-start=\"1596\" data-end=\"1828\">\n<p data-start=\"1598\" data-end=\"1828\"><strong data-start=\"1598\" data-end=\"1642\">Regenerating the coastal dune ecosystem.<\/strong> A landscape design was proposed to strengthen the dunes, thus <strong data-start=\"1705\" data-end=\"1770\">increasing the natural protection of the coast against storms<\/strong> while also <strong data-start=\"1782\" data-end=\"1826\">improving the habitat for local species.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1830\" data-end=\"1920\">CITA: <strong data-start=\"1836\" data-end=\"1918\">Regenerating dunes strengthens natural protection and improves local habitats.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1830\" data-end=\"1920\">These actions were complemented by <strong data-start=\"2196\" data-end=\"2256\">promoting edible landscapes and permaculture agriculture<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"2258\" data-end=\"2325\">intensifying native vegetation to reduce the heat island effect<\/strong>, and <strong data-start=\"2331\" data-end=\"2467\">improving existing public spaces (the port and pier) under a <em data-start=\"2394\" data-end=\"2408\">placekeeping<\/em> philosophy, which values and strengthens local identity.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\" data-start=\"3063\" data-end=\"3263\">\n<li data-start=\"3063\" data-end=\"3263\">\n<p data-start=\"3066\" data-end=\"3263\"><strong data-start=\"3066\" data-end=\"3223\">What does the \u201csystems-based regenerative design\u201d you used for regenerating the former Salinas Bahamas industrial complex consist of?<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p data-start=\"2620\" data-end=\"3042\">The <strong data-start=\"2624\" data-end=\"2663\">\u201csystems-based regenerative design\u201d<\/strong> applied at Salinas Bahamas <strong data-start=\"2691\" data-end=\"2825\">represents an effort to rehabilitate an ecosystem damaged by a former salt extraction operation and restore its original function.<\/strong> Instead of focusing on isolated interventions, <strong data-start=\"2873\" data-end=\"3040\">this approach identifies and addresses the root cause of ecological collapse: the alteration of the site\u2019s hydrology caused by abandoned industrial infrastructure.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3044\" data-end=\"3662\">\n<div data-end=\"3662\"><strong data-start=\"3044\" data-end=\"3106\">Our main strategy was to reactivate the system\u2019s \u201cengine.\u201d<\/strong> This was achieved through <strong data-start=\"3133\" data-end=\"3155\">catalyzing actions<\/strong>, such as <strong data-start=\"3165\" data-end=\"3225\">creating new inlets to connect the lagoon with the ocean<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"3230\" data-end=\"3292\">opening up industrial berms that fragmented the landscape.<\/strong> <strong data-start=\"3293\" data-end=\"3367\">By restoring the natural tidal flow, the system begins to heal itself.<\/strong> Water circulates again, <strong data-start=\"3392\" data-end=\"3443\">hypersalinity affecting aquatic life is reduced<\/strong>, and, most importantly, <strong data-start=\"3468\" data-end=\"3537\">currents passively distribute mangrove seeds throughout the site.<\/strong> <strong data-start=\"3538\" data-end=\"3660\">This allows the vast mangrove forests\u2014an ecosystem key to coastal resilience\u2014to regenerate naturally and autonomously.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_27368\" style=\"width: 1916px\" class=\"wp-caption data-end=\"4800\">Regarding the Acapulco Rehabilitation Project, and considering the impacts of Hurricane Otis, what landscape and natural infrastructure solutions were prioritized to act as barriers and natural buffers?<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p data-start=\"3882\" data-end=\"4247\">For the rehabilitation of Acapulco after Hurricane Otis, the project <strong data-start=\"3951\" data-end=\"3998\">focused on natural infrastructure solutions<\/strong>, understanding that the event is <strong data-start=\"4032\" data-end=\"4097\">part of a new normal in a world threatened by climate change.<\/strong> The approach <strong data-start=\"4111\" data-end=\"4155\">was based on \u201cco-designing with nature,\u201d<\/strong> <strong data-start=\"4156\" data-end=\"4193\">using water as the guiding thread<\/strong> for a new narrative of resilience and regeneration.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4249\" data-end=\"4567\">\n<div id=\"attachment_27370\" style=\"width: 1930px\" hillsides was considered crucial<\/strong> to address the high risk of landslides and vegetation loss. In addition, <strong data-start=\"4435\" data-end=\"4467\">sponge streets were proposed<\/strong> to tackle the saturated drainage system and <strong data-start=\"4512\" data-end=\"4565\">reduce the planned<\/strong> to protect the city from <strong data-start=\"4672\" data-end=\"4705\">strong winds and rising seas.<\/strong> <strong data-start=\"4706\" data-end=\"4794\">For the most vulnerable areas, protective dunes and artificial islands were proposed<\/strong>, aiming to <strong data-start=\"4806\" data-end=\"4836\">buffer the impact of waves<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"4841\"
