{"id":24551,"date":"2024-04-05T09:01:55","date_gmt":"2024-04-05T15:01:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.landuum.com\/?p=24551"},"modified":"2024-03-27T17:57:38","modified_gmt":"2024-03-27T23:57:38","slug":"botanic-gardens-of-british-columbia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.landuum.com\/en\/land-escape-en\/botanic-gardens-of-british-columbia\/","title":{"rendered":"Botanic gardens of British Columbia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Explore the <\/span><b>Botanic gardens of British Columbia<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with Armando Maravilla and Esa\u00fal Hern\u00e1ndez.<\/span><\/em><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During our visit to <\/span><b>Vancouver in 2023<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, we had the opportunity to explore and enjoy the area thanks to its good summer weather. <\/span><b>We visited the city &#8216;s most important botanical gardens<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: the University of British Columbia (UBC) Botanical Garden, the VanDusen, and the Bloedel Floral Conservatory.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The extent of these gardens was impressive, as well as their <\/span><b>focus on conservation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and education. In all of them, what stood out the most were <\/span><b>the floral combinations that adorned the landscape<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and led to new spaces. <\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_24536\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-24536\" class=\"wp-image-24536\" src=\"https:\/\/www.landuum.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/UBC-6-1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"439\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.landuum.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/UBC-6-1.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/www.landuum.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/UBC-6-1-300x220.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.landuum.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/UBC-6-1-600x439.jpeg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-24536\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Planter at access to the botanical garden. <br \/>Photography: Armando Maravilla<\/p><\/div>\n<p><b>UBC Botanical Garden<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The oldest in the region and also the largest of the three, founded in 1916, covers 44 hectares. <\/span><b>Notable areas include alpine forests, the Asian garden<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> resulting from exchanges with institutions in Asia, a space that recreates the original flora of western North America created in 2006, <\/span><b>a cactus and succulent garden<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, among other themed gardens.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Additionally, it features an elevated walkway that offers impressive views among the trees. In this space, you can appreciate <\/span><b>tropical flora and fauna<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which may seem common to some but are exotic to the people of Vancouver.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Among the flowers in this space were <\/span><b>orchids <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Orchidaceae<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), <\/span><b>bromeliads <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bromeliaceae<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), justice flowers, and <\/span><b>anthuriums <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anthurium<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). These places revealed to us the great local botanical diversity in this part of Canada, through <\/span><b>its textures, colors and aromas<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The gardens not only dazzle with their beauty, but are also centers of knowledge and conservation that highlight the importance of <\/span><b>protecting our botanical wealth and the planet<\/b><span
