Cabrera Arqs invites us to discover<\/span> Ikal: Space of Unity and Spirituality<\/b>, a place where the human spirit meets the vast universe.<\/span><\/em>

Ikal, <\/span>which in Mayan<\/a><\/span> means \u201cwind\u201d or \u201cspirit\u201d, <\/span>is an architectural sanctuary dedicated to meditation and contemplation of the night sky.<\/b> It is a place for spiritual exploration, a sanctuary where <\/span>individuals can find themselves under the starlight<\/b>. <\/span><\/p>\n

Architecturally, it presents itself as a nocturnal observatory<\/b>, a 9-meter diameter chukum cylinder that, during the day, frames the blue skies of the Yucat\u00e1n<\/a> Peninsula and, at night, <\/span>illuminates with stars resembling fireflies dancing in space.<\/b><\/p>\n

The cylinder is carefully shielded by a wrapping of \u201calbarrada\u201d stone<\/b> (low wall of loose stone characteristic of Yucat\u00e1n), arranged in a way that seamlessly integrates with the smooth surface of the chukum. This structure creates a series of slopes that <\/span>connect the architectural space with the surrounding natural environment. <\/b><\/p>\n

The access is marked by a slightly inclined plane that guides visitors after crossing a stone floor. This entrance is framed by an \u201calbarrada\u201d rope that seems to detach from the building envelope, <\/span>creating a visual effect of continuity between the exterior and interior spaces.<\/b><\/p>\n

The design aims to capture space and generate a mystical environment filled with energy. <\/span>The combination of natural materials such as stone and chukum<\/a><\/b>, along with the careful arrangement of starlight, <\/span>creates an environment conducive to contemplation and spiritual connection. <\/b><\/p>\n

The presence of the outline of the Cassiopeia constellation planted with Chak\u00e1 trees (Bursera simaruba)<\/b> in the outer circular plaza adds a symbolic and magical element to the space, inviting visitors to explore the <\/span>wonders of the universe while feeling connected to the earth<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

From an aerial perspective, the project resembles an asteroid impact in the Chicxulub crater area<\/b>, reminiscent of the eternal connection between the cosmos and the earth. Its stone floor seems to merge with the ancestral geology of the place, <\/span>symbolizing the continuity of time and the importance of star observation<\/b> throughout human history.<\/span><\/p>\n
